These 5 Myths About Devil Fruits Turn Out to be False

As one of the most popular manga and anime, One Piece by Eiichiro Oda can be said to have succeeded in building a fictional world that is not only vast, but also full of mysteries and exciting adventures in it. One of the most interesting elements in his world is the Devil Fruit which can grant the user extraordinary powers. Throughout the journey of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, there have been many misunderstandings about Devil Fruits. So, in this article, we will reveal five popular myths about Devil Fruits in the world of One Piece that are actually fake!

Demon possessed

The first false myth that is quite popular in the world of One Piece states that Devil Fruit users actually experience demonic possession. The character who really believes in this myth is Jabra, a former member of CP9 who has now been promoted to become a member of CP0. Furthermore, Jabra even believed that if a Devil Fruit user gets too close to a Devil Fruit that hasn't been eaten, the devil will come out of the fruit to kill him. It's sad that even though Jabra himself is a user of the Devil Fruit Inu Inu no Mi model Wolf, it seems he doesn't want to hear the results of modern research that disproves this myth of demonic possession.

Curse

In the land of Amazon Lily women led by Boa Hancock, the false myth that has been circulating believes that the Devil Fruit is a kind of curse. Due to limited information, many finally believe that the Gorgon Sisters, consisting of Hancock, Sandersonia, and Marigold, have obtained the powers of Mero Mero no Mi and Hebi Hebi no Mi from the curse of a snake monster named Gorgon. The Flying Pirate's Captain Vander Decken IX said the same thing, who called his strength a sign of the curse of the Mato Mato Curse. The victims of Sugar at Dressrosa also mentioned that they were cursed by the Hobi Hobi Curse.

Magic

The Tontatta tribe of the island of Green Bit is another group of people in Dressrosa who believe in the false myths about Devil Fruits. The difference is that what they believe is not a curse but a magic that makes a person more powerful than ordinary humans. This was first revealed to the Tontatta tribe when they first caught Nico Robin and tried to tie him up. But when Robin released his Hana Hana no Mi power, many of the Tontatta tribe members believed that Robin had some kind of magic that could make his hands grow more. Robin herself doesn't seem to care much about their beliefs and tends to let it slide.

Sea Monster Reincarnation

Who would have thought that a Yonko class like Shanks would actually believe in a false myth which stated that a Devil Fruit was the reincarnation of a sea monster. This was told in the flashback story of One Piece, when young Shanks who was still Gol D. Roger's subordinate was discussing the origins of Devil Fruits with Buggy. Although now this myth has been banished by Shanks and Buggy, it is likely that there are still many children and even adults in the world of One Piece who believe that Devil Fruits are the reincarnation of sea monsters. Especially now that there are many Devil Fruit users whose appearance and behavior are not much different from monsters.

Ninjutsu

The last misunderstanding that the people of Wano Island believe in is a false myth that states that Devil Fruits are a ninjutsu technique. Different from magic in the real world itself, ninjutsu is a designation for martial arts, strategies, and war tactics carried out by shinobi or female ninjas called kunoichi. Raizo, who is considered one of the best ninjutsu experts in Wano, is in fact the owner of the Maki Maki no Mi Devil Fruit power or what Wano people often call the Scroll Scroll Jutsu. The same thing was experienced by Shinobu who has the power of the Ripe Ripe Jutsu which is none other than the Juku Juku no Mi Devil Fruit.

Those are five false myths about Devil Fruits that are widely believed by a number of people in the world of One Piece. It's not impossible that this misunderstanding will continue to grow due to the lack of information dissemination about Devil Fruits, especially in a region like East Blue which rarely becomes a battlefield for Devil Fruit users, both pirates and marines. Even so, it is also possible that areas in the isolated Grand Line still believe in some of these false myths, for example Wano and Dressrosa.
