10 Anime That Quit Broadcasting before the End, From Samurai X to Slam Dunk!

10 Anime That Quit Broadcasting before the End

Even though it has aired, it turns out that there are several anime titles that eventually have to stop or be canceled even before the series is finished. In presenting a story in an anime series, of course the fans hope that they will be able to know or get the whole storyline. That way, they would know what the ending would be like.

On the other hand, of course, when an anime series doesn't finish the storyline, it will make the fans curious about the hanging story. Even so, in fact there are several anime titles that eventually have to stop or be canceled before the story of the series is finished. Anything? Here is the list.

1. Deadman Wonderland

A high school student named Ganta Igarashi witnessed the deaths of all of his classmates. However, he is actually framed as the perpetrator of this terrible action. As a result of this he was then sent to Deadman Wonderland. Deadman Wonderland is a terrifying prison, but camouflaged as an amusement park.

Even though the animation that was presented was considered extraordinary, the plot that was presented was actually considered too rushed and not well organized. On the other hand, the removal of several characters from the story is also considered a factor that makes fans unhappy about this. As a result, Deadman Wonderland was decided to stop broadcasting.

2. FruitBasket

Fruit Basket was one of the anime that was quite popular in the early 2000s, in 2001 to be precise. In fact, the series was considered one of the best anime at that time. Fruit Basket tells the story of Tohru Honda, an orphan girl who finds out that the twelve members of the Soma family are actually possessed by an animal "spirit" from the Chinese zodiac calendar.

The anime itself is known to only run for one season before being discontinued. This is because the creator of the manga, Natsuki Takaya, was not happy with what was presented at the end of the anime story. Even so, the Fruit Basket anime had another reboot in 2019 and in this reboot the results were much better where the anime ran for three seasons.

3. Flame Of Recca

For geeks from the 90s generation, of course they know the Flame of Recca series, which also appeared on Indonesian TV. The story itself focuses on the figure of Recca Hanabishi, a teenager who dreams of becoming a ninja. After years of training and hard work, Recca then gets the chance to prove his strength.

This is after Yanagi, the figure he has been protecting all this time, is attacked by various enemies who have mystical powers. What then becomes a problem in the anime version is that the storyline is considered to have a pace that is too fast so that it has the potential to surpass the manga's story. The anime only featured the initial arc and the second tournament before being discontinued. The manga itself was then finished in early 2000 and the manga has been forgotten by many people.

4. Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress

This is one of the anime projects worked on by Wit Studio and directed by Tetsuro Araki. If geeks see the anime for the first time, their reaction might be that Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress is a “copy” of another popular anime, Attack On Titan. However, of course there are things that are distinguished in this anime such as the enemies they face.

Even so, the animation and world-building presented in the anime are actually quite good and have received quite a lot of positive responses. However, after only running for 12 episodes the series then stopped. Even though about three years later there was a sequel film that presented the continuation of the story, not much was presented.

5. Ouran High School Host Club

After the success of the Fullmetal Alchemis anime, Studio Bones then tried to present another anime they produced, namely Ouran High School Host Club. Actually, in terms of story and delivery there is nothing wrong with this anime. This anime even became one of the romantic comedy anime in the 2000s which even managed to have fans of all genders.

Unfortunately, after running 26 episodes in the first season there has never been any further news of this anime. Indeed, there have been many rumors that have surfaced over the years about the continuation and even reboot of the series. However, in fact, until now there has never been a continuation or real manifestation of this. In fact, the storyline itself is still not finished.

6. Baccano!

Baccano! is another anime that has to stop even when its episodes just hit the tens. The number of episodes of the anime before it stopped was 16 episodes. Baccano! presents three storylines that are different from each other, which then eventually become one. The story focuses on various crime families, eternal life and other things.

Since its inception until episode 16, the story itself has never been considered complete. How then does the anime try to adapt the four original story novels at once in one season, not just in an unfavorable way. However, this also presented many plot holes and unfinished storylines which eventually resulted in the anime being stopped or terminated.

7. Highschool Of The Dead

One of the popular anime series, but had to be canceled before the anime was finished. High School of the Dead tells the story of a group of teenagers in a high school who are trying to survive from a zombie attack that has invaded Japan. Besides having to deal with zombies, they also have to survive from a society that has started to go "crazy" with the situation and circumstances that occur.

Actually, both the manga and anime versions got quite a good response. In fact, Highschool of the Dead is also one of the very popular series. Unfortunately, the storyline itself could not be continued because the creator of the series, Daisuke Satou, passed away in 2017. So far no other creator has continued the story or created new material for the anime or manga.

8. Prison School

Besides Highschool of the Dead, another popular anime that had to be canceled before it was finished was Prison School. Kiyoshi Fujino and four other friends are male students at Hachimitsu Academy where the majority of students are female. In fact, you could say, Hachimitsu Academy is a girls' high school with the most stringent regulations, where they previously did not want to accept male students.

An embarrassing incident then occurred when the male students were caught peeking at the female students in the bathroom area. They were also given two choices; spent a full month locked up in the school's jail or expelled from the school. While the manga version was well-received by various groups, unfortunately the opposite was felt by the anime. Because of this, even though there was no official notification, the Prison School anime only lasted for one season.

9. Samurai X

Samurai X is another example of a popular anime title that ends up having a tragic fate where there is no continuation of the story. Samurai X focuses on the adventures of Himura Kenshin, a former samurai assassin who has sworn never to kill again and decides to protect those who are weak. Fans actually really enjoy the anime, but only when the story closely follows the original source.

Generally in an anime series, usually while waiting for the story in the manga to go far, they will present filler stories or side stories that don't exist or don't appear in the manga. However, when the entire story was filled with filler, fans' interest in the third season immediately dropped dramatically. The effect is, only half the season has been running, this anime has stopped.

10. Slam Dunk

Perhaps, one of the anime that was discontinued before the story was finished and made a lot of fans curious about the continuation was Slam Dunk. Slam Dunk is a classic anime that is very popular almost all over the world. In fact, this became one of the icons of the 90s. The anime itself ran for approximately 101 episodes, before being cancelled.

Slam Dunk anime itself focuses on a basketball team from Shohoku High School and how their friendship goes. The number of 101 episodes is actually quite an extraordinary number of episodes for an anime series. What fans really regret is that the anime had to be canceled before the Nationals arc, which is the most important arc. In that arc, Shohoku is shown fighting against their main rival, Sannoh. Ironically, it is not known the real reason why the anime was later cancelled.

Adaptation of an anime series from a manga is one of the things that usually happens when there is a series that is popular or is being hit at that time. Even so, in reality this does not guarantee the success of the anime. The various titles above can be real examples of how in the end the anime has to stop before the story is finished.

THANK YOU.
