8 Inbreeding on Game of Thrones Series
8 Inbreeding on Game of Thrones Series |
The world of Game of Thrones is indeed very wide. There, we can see various kingdoms, clans, and great characters. Well in the universe, we are also familiar with the term inbreeding. Simply put, inbreeding is done to keep the bloodline of his clan, to keep it pure. There have been many Game of Thrones characters who have had incest, and some of them have been shown in series and novels. So who are the characters who have done inbreeding? Check out the discussion below, Geeks!
1. Aegon Targaryen and Rhaenys and Visenya
Aegon Targaryen was the first to create and occupy the Iron Throne. He was the conqueror of the six kingdoms of Westeros, and the forerunner of Targaryen domination in the world. When going to conquer Westeros, Aegon decided to marry Rhaenys, his younger sister. Instead of only marrying one of his brothers, Aegon apparently decided to polygamy by marrying his older sister, Visenya. Aegon deliberately married Visenya to secure his successor line. As for Rhaenys, Aegon married her purely out of love. But before marrying the two, Aegon first claimed the dragon Balerion.
2. Aerys II Targaryen and Rhaella
Maybe the name Mad King is familiar to your ears. His name had appeared in the Game of Thrones series. Actually his real name is not Mad King, but Aerys II Targaryen. After all the events that happened to his family, he went crazy. When the Mad King was young, he married his sister, Rhaella Targaryen. But the marriage did not make him happy, especially after Aegon V Targaryen (Mad King's grandfather) opposed his second marriage. Actually geeks, Mad King married Rhaella not because of love, but because of a prophecy from a witch, which stated that the marriage of Mad King and Rhaella resulted in a promised prince.

3. Baelon Targaryen and Alyssa
Baelon Targaryen got the nickname The Spring Prince because he was born in early spring. During his lifetime, Baelon had fought a lot. One of his biggest battles was when he took revenge for the death of Aemon, his brother. Since successfully avenging Aemon's death, Baelon has been crowned the leader of Dragonstone. But before becoming the leader of Dragonstone, Baelon had married his younger sister named Alyssa Targaryen. Well after they got married, Alyssa gave birth to two sons, which we can now see in the House of the Dragon series, namely Viserys and Daemon.
4. Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Alysanne
Nicknamed The Conciliator, Jaehaerys I was a wise king. He became the fourth Targaryen to occupy the Iron Throne. Jaehaerys I succeeded to the throne after the death of his uncle, Maegor I Targaryen. Jaehaerys became the longest-reigning monarch, having served 55 years. Jaehaerys later married his sister, Alysanne Targaryen. The two married in secret at Dragonstone. Actually at that time, Jaehaerys refused to marry Alysanne because Alysanne was considered too young. But in the end they got married, even though Jaehaerys's parents didn't approve of it either.
5. Viserys I and Aemma
You certainly know Viserys I, who appeared as the king of Westeros in the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon. Viserys I was the fifth king to occupy the Iron Throne. Just like his grandfather, Jaehaerys I, Viserys I became a wise king. During his reign, war was rare. But after his death, a civil war broke out between the Targaryen. Well during his lifetime, Viserys I married a woman he loved very much, Aemma Arryn. Well Aemma herself is a close cousin of Viserys. Viserys I and Aemma's marriage eventually produced two children, but a son died in infancy, leaving only Rhaenyra the only child.
6. Rhaenyra and Daemon
As mentioned above, Rhaenyra was the only child of Viserys I and Aemma. At the age of 8, Rhaenyra was made the heir to the Iron Throne. Viserys I hoped that Rhaenyra would grow up to be queen of Westeros, and become the first queen to reign on the Iron Throne. But Rhaenyra's struggle to become queen was not easy, because she had to face her half-sister, Aegon II Targaryen, which eventually sparked a civil war. After Laena Velaryon died, and Daemon was a widower, Rhaenyra later married Daemon (her uncle), in Dragonstone. They married secretly so that Viserys wouldn't forbid her marriage.
7. Baelor Targaryen and Daena Targaryen
Baelor I Targaryen is known for his piety as he is the septon as well as the ninth king who reigns on the Iron Throne. Baelor came to power after the death of his older brother, Daeron I Targaryen. In contrast to other kings who have ruled, Baelor's body is very thin and weak due to frequent extreme fasts (several days without eating and drinking). During Baelor's reign, the people became religious. Well even so, Baelor married his younger sister, Daena Targaryen. Actually, their second marriage was not happy, because Baelor was considered too obsessed with his beliefs. But in the end, their second marriage produced a child named Daemon Blackfyre.
8. Aegon III Targaryen and Jaehaera Targaryen
Aegon III Targaryen has many nicknames, ranging from Aegon the Unlucky, Aegon the Unhappy, to The Broken King. He is the seventh king to occupy the Iron Throne, succeeding his uncle, Aegon II Targaryen at the end of Dance of the Dragons. Aegon III became the figure who kept the kingdom united after the division of the civil war. So Aegon III himself decided to marry his cousin, Jaehaera Targaryen. Their wedding ceremony took place outside the Dragonpit ruins on Visenya Hill. It was his marriage that ultimately united the two branches of the Targaryen clan.
