Here Are 5 Names of Joker That Are Already Known From All Adapted Versions! |
First introduced through DC Comics stories in 1940, the Joker is Batman's nemesis as well as the most iconic villain in comic history. Known for his unpredictable madness, every incarnation of the Joker always has a mystery behind his identity. However, over time, several alternative comic stories and other adaptations have revealed the real name of this character who is nicknamed the Clown Prince of Crime. So apart from the main version which is still shrouded in mystery to this day, this time we will review the five original names of the Joker variants that have been revealed!
Jack Napier– Batman (1989)
The first variant of the Clown Prince of Crime whose character identity has been revealed is Joker from brilliant actor Jack Nicholson who made his debut in the live action Batman film directed by Tim Burton. In Michael Keaton's version of Batman, the Joker's real name is Jack Napier. The Joker in this film is described as the leader of a large mafia group as well as a cruel psychopath trying to destroy Gotham City. The name Jack Napier himself was reused by DC Comics to describe the Joker in the comic Batman: Curse of the White Knight (2019), where he is said to have repented and become a hero who succeeded in exposing corruption in Gotham City.
Martha Wayne – Flashpoint (2011)
In the Flashpoint alternative story written by Geoff Johns, Joker is one of the characters told to experience major changes due to Flash wanting to change the past. In his world, the Joker's real name is none other than Martha Wayne, Bruce Wayne's mother who lost her sanity and transformed herself into the Joker after Bruce's death. At the same time Bruce's death also turned his father Thomas Wayne into a cruel version of Batman in his world. Even more terrifying, Martha also purposely ripped both sides of her cheek and became one of the most insane versions of the Joker in DC history.

Jerome & Jeremiah Valeska – Gotham (2014-2019)
Debuting in the Gotham series, the Joker character is presented through several incarnations, where they are twin brothers whose real names are Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska. Even though they don't explicitly call themselves the Joker, Jerome and Jeremiah, both played by actor Cameron Monaghan, have many similarities to the Joker in various DC stories. Their transformation into insane criminals started with Jerome, who had the ambition to cause chaos from the start. Before his death, Jerome then poisoned Jeremiah with his laughing toxin and turned him into a new, smarter and deadlier version of the Joker.
Arthur Fleck – Joker (2019)
As one of the most successful DC shows despite having an adult rating, the Joker film directed by Todd Phillips can be said to have succeeded in depicting the origin of the character of the Clown Prince of Crime in Elseworlds (multiverse) quite uniquely and tragically. The Joker's real name, played by actor Joaquin Phoenix, is Arthur Fleck, where he was originally just a lonely and marginalized man who eventually became a famous psychopath with his sinister smile. In Indonesia, the emergence of Arthur Fleck's version of the Joker has made the term "bad people born from good people who are hurt" even more popular among millennials.
Jack White – Flashpoint Beyond (2022)
Success with the first story which introduced Martha as a terrible version of the Joker, the sequel entitled Flashpoint Beyond returns with a new twist that is no less surprising. In this comic, Joker Martha is told to meet a Psycho-Pirate who has knowledge beyond reality. Martha then forced the Psycho-Pirate to tell the Joker's real name in the Bruce universe who was still alive as Batman. It is at this point that it is revealed that the Joker in the other universe is named Jack Oswald White. Knowing this, Martha immediately killed Jack White in her universe, who turned out to be living happily as a poor comedian, not as a villain.
Those are the five real names of the Joker that have been revealed. Although the identity of the Joker has always been closely guarded and remains a mystery for most of the story, several comic, film and series adaptations have revealed the Clown Prince of Crime's real name. Starting from Jack Napier, Arthur Fleck, to Jack White, each of these names can be said to have a unique nuance to describe the Joker. However, one thing that remains consistent is the insanity of the character, which has made the Joker the most iconic villain in Gotham City and the DC Universe as a whole.
