2 Upcoming Godzilla Movies and 2 TV Series! |
Of the many kaiju that exist in various fictional stories, you could say Godzilla is the most famous kaiju in the world. Currently there are at least two major studios that hold the rights to Godzilla's property, namely Toho from Japan who created Godzilla from the start, and Legendary with the MonsterVerse cinema universe in Hollywood. Despite being unrelated, the two are currently developing a number of Godzilla films and a series slated for release in the future. What are the impressions in question? Check out the full list below, Geeks!
TOHO Godzilla (2023)
The first Godzilla show slated for worldwide release soon is Toho's Godzilla film, which currently doesn't have an official title. Even so, we need to note that currently Toho is already working on his project with the working title 'Godzilla Blockbuster Movie', which means this film will have a large scale like Shin Godzilla (2016).
The film, directed and written by Takashi Yamazaki, will tell the story of the appearance of kaiju after the Japanese war between 1945 and 1947. Despite the scant information, the Japanese version of the Godzilla film has been confirmed to be released on November 3, 2023. Not a few fans have speculated that the latest kaiju film from Toho will again depict how terrible the effects of radiation from the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are.

Sequel Godzilla vs. Kong (2024)
From Toho we now turn to Legendary with its MonsterVerse cinema universe. Where since 2022 it has been revealed that the studio has secretly been working on a sequel for the film Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). The film, which was again directed by Adam Wingard, has actually started its shooting process since July 2022 in Queensland, Australia and finished in November 2022. So it can be concluded that now the film has entered the pre-production stage and is ready to be promoted.
According to the official synopsis, this upcoming epic film will again focus on Kong and Godzilla, who this time must face a mysterious new enemy who has been hiding on Earth for a long time. Apart from further exploring the history of the Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island will also be revealed through the battles. The film, which is currently called Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is scheduled to air on March 15, 2024.
Skull Island (TBA)
First announced in 2021, Skull Island is an animated series that will tell the story of the struggles of human characters on Kong's home island. Where it all started after the ship they were traveling on sank near Skull Island, so like it or not they had to survive the threat of the ancient creatures that were in it.
Although it hasn't been explained whether this series will have a relationship with kaiju like Kong, but since Legendary Television and Netflix Animation are working on it, it is not impossible that in the future we will see many connections with the MonsterVerse cinema universe. It is currently unknown when the animated series will be released on Netflix, what is clear is that Brian Duffield and Jacob Robinson have been appointed as showrunners. Let's just wait, geeks.
Godzilla and the Titans (TBA)
Shortly after the Godzilla vs. Kong was a success worldwide, Legendary started trying to pitch a live action series proposal related to the upcoming MonsterVerse which was eventually agreed to by the Apple TV+ streaming channel. Since then, in mid-2022, Legendary has announced that a series entitled Godzilla and the Titans is officially being worked on with a cast including Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kurt Russell, and his son Wyatt Russell.
Director Matt Shakman has been appointed to work on the first two episodes as well as acting as executive producer of the series. The story itself will take place not long after the first appearance of Godzilla devastates San Francisco, where a family tries to go on an adventure only to find out that their ancestors were part of the secret organization Monarch. Although the release schedule has not been revealed, many fans are hoping for the series to air later this year.
Those are the 4 upcoming Godzilla films and series that sooner or later we will be able to see on the big screen or streaming channels. Considering the agreement between Toho and Legendary which presented the franchises separately, this could actually be a good thing for all of us as Godzilla fans. Because that means we can see two different points of view, especially since Toho himself is famous for often giving shows that depict how evil and terrible Godzilla is. Of all the Godzilla films and series, which one do you anticipate the most, Geeks?
THANK YOU.
